Bicycle Maintenance Workshop at The Commons Bike RepairThe Commons and the Gabriola Green Bikes Program (GGBP) are pleased to announce the first in a series of basic bicycle maintenance workshops. Thanks to a generous donation from Hank Sirlin, a GGBP representative has recently completed a one week intensive course at United Bicycle Institute in Ashland, Oregon and will be leading the workshops. The first will take place on Saturday Sep 4th at The Commons, from 10 am until noon. It will focus on tire and chain maintenance with subsequent events dedicated to brakes, gears and other components. The workshops will be offered at no cost although donations to GGBP will be gratefully accepted. Enrollment is limited to ten people but there will be a repeat session if there is sufficient community interest. To reserve a spot, please call 247-0083. Participants are encouraged (but not required) to bring their own bikes.

And speaking of gratitude, the Green Bikes Program would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the individuals who have kindly donated bicycles.

2010 Agricultural Fall Fair at The Commons On Sunday, Sep 12th from noon to 3 pm -- Growlies and scarecrows, rabbits and roosters; the breathtakingly beautiful, the largest, the smallest, the funniest! There'll be cotton candy and apple juicing, miniature goats and sheep, with fleece to felt, spinners and weavers and activist quilters, all ready to show the wonders of their art. You'll find Master gardeners to give you advice and clowns to make you laugh. The food, delicious! The music, entrancing. Fun for all ...

Special this year:
- display by local companies promoting the responsible use of water
- invitation to all Gabriolans to take part in the writing of the first Management Plan for the Gabriola Commons (at 3 pm)

An entry form for the agricultural competition can be downloaded by clicking here or picked up at Raven Feed, Lockwood Garden, Wheelbarrow Nursery, or Wild Rose Garden Centre.
