Getting Involved The Gabriola Commons was created and exists for the community. Your participation provides a unique and rich opportunity for taking part in a creative and exciting community project. When you help the Gabriola Commons, you are helping your community.
Visit the Commons anytime to explore the property and visit the many gardens and orchards. You will be amazed by what the community has accomplished!
Attend one of the many regular events (and some irregular events) at the Commons. See The Next Big Event and the Upcoming Events list on the Home page. Socialize with your neighbours and talk with Commons volunteers.
Become a member and a donor. Membership and Donations are important ways you can support the Commons through your participation and monetary donations. Membership is free and charitable tax receipts are issued in January for total annual donations of more than $10.
Teams can always use more volunteers; the more, the merrier! Sign up on the Membership / Participation form for an area that interests you. (Click on Teams to see a list of Teams and information about each team.)
If you just want to contribute occasionally for events of your choosing, sign up for Events help on the Membership / Participation form. You may also be interested in the Volunteer Coordination and Special Events Teams.
Participate in Work Bees on a regular basis or when you can make it. You can sign up on the Membership / Participation form, see Contact Us or check notices in the local papers.
Attend the monthly Commons Coordinating Council meeting on the first Tuesday of each month at the Commons, 7 pm. (See Coordinating Council under Governance). This is a good opportunity to get information of the work of all teams and talk with team members.
Donate supplies or equipment (see Property Management Team for specific wish list). Tax receipts are available for in-kind donations.
