Mandate/Objectives
To ensure the peaceful and respectful co-existence of various projects by meeting with interested groups and individuals to:
learn about their key aims and objectives for a project or land use;
consider options and significant impacts of the project on common life;
increase levels of awareness related to the "community common" vision; and
determine the benefits and suitability
To work with groups and individuals with project interests in the Commons, as per the design plan and the bylaw amendment application to the Islands Trust, by:
creating materials to provide information for groups with a land-use interest; and
developing questions for consistency of interaction in each situation.
To act as a bridge to the Council or Foundation to further develop a project or tenancy when appropriate and dependent on the situation.
Guidelines for Discussions of Sharing the Commons
Recognize the following principles:
Commons land is valued by many people for a range of reasons.
All perspectives are valuable.
Progress takes into account all interests.
Change can bring benefits.
Respect and understand each others' values and aims.
Keep an open mind and be willing to explore various options and impacts on others.
Work together for an agreed outcome.
Even though complete unanimity may not be possible, aim for broad consensus.
Ensure communication and information documents are clear.
